This past weekend at the Fall Convention in Orlando, the Heralds won the right to represent the Sunshine District in Las Vegas. Under the direction of Tony De Rosa, the Heralds with 48 singers, scored a total of 1,002 points for a scoring percentage of 83.5. This is only the fourth time in the Heralds history that a score of 1,000 was achieved. We look forward to the performance improvements that we will be achieving in coming months leading to the Las Vegas convention.
Easy Street is having a great year with winning the Seniors District Championship this past April and then followed with winning the Sunshine District International Preliminary this past weekend. They have earned the right to represent our district at the Mid-winter convention, January 21st in San Antonio, Texas. These guys are totally on a roll and will be even better when the Mid-winter contest gets here. Paul Carter sings Tenor, Dave Cross on Lead, Bryan Hevel on Bass, and Charlie Nelson on Baritone, all are very experienced barbershoppers. We are proud you are Heralds.
Way to go Windsor Quartet! These four Sweet Adelines just finished second in the International Contest in Las Vegas and have a special place with the Heralds as they performed on our USF and Palladium Encore 16 shows. Ashley, lead of the quartet, is particulaly special as she is the wife of Christian Expinoza, a super singer in our Lead Section. At our rehearsal just after the contest, Christian had a springy step (strut even) as he walked to his spot on the risers, no doubt that he was pleased with Windsor. And, so are the Heralds.
Congratulations to Joseph De Rosa for being selected as September's Barbershopper of the Month. The Board chose Joseph as he has shown a high level of skill in his individual solo and acting performances on this year's shows culiminating with our latest September show. Joseph is the youngest member to receive the award at just age 13. The Heralds look forward to many more years of Joseph's contributions.
Over the years, the Heralds have been blessed with parents and siblings sharing their family time as members of the Heralds. Our 'History' has examples, not only of father and son/s but also grandfathers and brothers. In the beginning, two brothers, Sam and Fred Breedon, were members of the original charter in May 1945. And, this has continued throughout our history. This causes a family reunion each week at rehearsal and they are sometimes joined by their spouses and girlfriends.
Here are some of our current father and son combinations:
The annual Youth Harmony Workshop was held at the Van Dyke Church in Lakeshore, Fl. on Friday, October 14. And, what a fun time for over 300 Hillsborough middle and high schools from over 18 schools. The students had a wonderful experience in meeting other singers from other schools, forming two choruses - one each for boys and girls, learning new music, eating pizza for lunch, and then performing at an afternoon show.
