Hillsborough County Youth Harmony Workshop

The annual Youth Harmony Workshop was held at the Van Dyke Church in Lakeshore, Fl. on Friday, October 14. And, what a fun time for over 300 Hillsborough middle and high schools from over 18 schools. The students had a wonderful experience in meeting other singers from other schools, forming two choruses - one each for boys and girls, learning new music, eating pizza for lunch, and then performing at an afternoon show.

The workshop was led by Arne Helbig, a member of the Florida 'Sunshine' District and the local Barbershop Chapter, the Heralds of Harmony.

The girls clinician 'extraordinare' was Debbie Cleveland and she put the girls through all the fun stuff of learning and then performing a new song as well giving a demonstration of what makes up barbershop singing. Debbie is the number one clinician for the Barbershop Harmony Society as well for the Sweet Adeline Incorporated Society. She leads the music program at Gaither High School.

The boys clinicians were members of the 2016 international fourth place medalist in Nashville and are the Signature Quartet. These very talented guys taught music and presentation skills to over 130 students. They then brought their outstanding performance to the after noon show. We are grateful that they could take time away from their very busy schedules to spend the day with our students.
